Network Cabling
Voice & Data Cabling for Birmingham Businesses
Vulcan Telecom installs structured voice and data cabling – Cat6 and Cat6A drops, wall jacks, patch panels and racks – for offices and commercial buildings in Birmingham and across Alabama.

One organized system instead of a tangle of cables
Structured cabling is an organized, standardized way to wire a business for phones, computers, printers, Wi-Fi access points and everything else on the network. Every cable runs from the work area to a central point – a patch panel in your network closet – where it is labeled and ready to connect. When something needs to move or be fixed, you know exactly which cable is which.
Vulcan Telecom has worked in Birmingham for 20+ years. We install the cabling and we also run phone systems and support networks, so we wire your building with the equipment that will plug into it in mind.
Cat6 or Cat6A?
Cat6 is the everyday choice for offices: it carries gigabit Ethernet to desks and phones and supports Power over Ethernet (PoE) for IP phones and access points. Cat6A is thicker, shielded against crosstalk and rated for 10-gigabit speeds over a full 100-meter run – a good fit for Wi-Fi access points, links between closets and buildings you plan to keep for many years. We will tell you where each one makes sense instead of selling the most expensive cable everywhere.
Phones and data on the same cabling
Today's business phones are network devices. With a cloud phone system, voice travels on the same Cat6 cable as data – often to a single jack per desk, with the computer plugged into the phone. If you are moving to a new phone system, we can cable for it and install the phones in one project. See our business VoIP phone systems.

FAQ
Voice & Data Cabling questions
How long does it take to cable an office?
A few added drops usually take a day. A full office of 20–50 drops typically takes a few days, depending on the ceilings, walls and how much access we have. We give you a schedule with the quote.
Do you work after hours?
We can schedule work around your business hours when that is needed to avoid disrupting your staff – ask when you request the quote.
Should I choose Cat6 or Cat6A?
Cat6 is right for most desks and phones. Cat6A makes sense for Wi-Fi access points, long runs and buildings you plan to keep for many years. We recommend per location, not one cable for everything.
Can you work with my existing patch panels and rack?
Yes. We add drops to an existing closet, clean it up if needed and label the new cabling to match.
How much does a cabling drop cost?
It depends on the cable type, distance, ceiling access and the number of drops. Call (205) 699-8090 or send the quote form – we visit the site and give you a written quote.
