Wi-Fi for a building full of devices

A classroom of 25 students with laptops or tablets, plus the teacher's screen and a projector, is a very different load from an office. When the Wi-Fi was designed for a few laptops per room, lessons stall as soon as everyone logs in at once. Good school Wi-Fi comes from enough access points, placed in the right rooms and properly cabled, with separate networks for staff, students and guests. We look at how the building is actually used – classrooms, the gym, the cafeteria, the carpool line – and design coverage for it.

Cabling for classrooms, labs and offices

Displays, projectors, printers, phones and access points all need cabling, and older school buildings often have a patchwork of runs added over the years. We add drops for new classrooms and labs, clean up network closets, label everything and leave you documentation, usually during breaks and summers so classes aren't disrupted. See network cabling.

Phones, paging and emergencies

A school phone system has jobs an office system doesn't. The front office needs to reach every classroom, make announcements through overhead paging, and handle a flood of calls on snow days. A cloud phone system gives you an auto attendant with your school's options, ring groups for the front office, paging, voicemail to email for teachers and a recorded message you can change from your phone when the school closes. We set up 911 calling so emergency services receive the right address for the building.

IT support for a small staff

Most private and charter schools don't have a full-time IT department – often it is a teacher or an administrator who 'is good with computers'. We take that weight off them: staff and student accounts in Microsoft 365, updates on every computer, printers that work, devices set up for the new school year, and someone to call when the projector won't connect five minutes before class.

Protecting student information

Student records, health information and family contact details deserve careful handling. We set up multi-factor sign-in for staff, email filtering, separate networks for student devices, content filtering where you need it and backups of the files that live at the school. Your school owns its privacy policies under FERPA and state rules; we take care of the technical safeguards behind them.
