Upgrades & Repairs – Vulcan Telecom, Birmingham, AL

When the network is the problem

Slow connections, phones that drop calls, a printer that keeps going offline, or a jack that simply doesn't work are often cabling problems: a damaged cable above the ceiling, a bad termination, a patch cord that was moved, or old Cat5 that can't keep up. We test the cabling, find the fault and fix it – instead of guessing and replacing equipment that was never broken.

Signs you need an upgrade

  • Slow or unreliable speeds on some desks but not others
  • Frequent connection drops, including on IP phones
  • An office layout change or expansion
  • Visibly damaged, kinked or unlabeled cabling
  • Old Cat5 / Cat5e cabling and new equipment that needs more

For larger changes – a closet that needs to be rebuilt or a whole floor that needs new cabling – see server room cabling and commercial cabling.

FAQ

Upgrades & Repairs questions

How do I know if the cabling is the problem?

If problems follow a specific desk, jack or area – and not a specific computer or phone – the cabling is a likely cause. We test it to be sure.

Can you add a few drops to an existing office?

Yes. Adding drops to an existing closet is one of the most common jobs we do.

Is it worth upgrading from Cat5e?

If the equipment and speeds you need are outgrowing it, or the cabling is damaged and undocumented, upgrading the affected areas to Cat6 is usually worth it.

How fast can you come out?

Call (205) 699-8090 – we will tell you when a technician can be there.
