What is a SIP trunk?
SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) is the standard that voice over IP uses to set up calls. A SIP trunk is a virtual phone line delivered over a broadband connection instead of copper lines from the phone company. Your on-premises phone system (PBX) connects to Vulcan's voice network, and your calls travel over the internet.
SIP trunking or hosted PBX?
If your phone system is recent and paid for, SIP trunking lets you keep it and cut the cost of the lines. If the phone system itself is old, a hosted VoIP phone system usually makes more sense: the phone system moves to the cloud and there is no equipment to maintain on site.
